Steve Kauenhofen
Counselling InternSteve grew up in and around the Pembina Valley. His journey to becoming a counsellor began in 2000 when he first enrolled at the University of Manitoba to pursue a Bachelor of Arts in Science, with a major in psychology. However, his academic pursuits were interrupted when he courageously faced a battle with cancer, not once but twice within a span of 24 years. Despite the challenges, through multiple rounds of chemotherapy and a stem cell transplant, Steve emerged victorious and is now in remission.
In the fall of 2021, Steve embarked on his second quest to become a counsellor attending Providence Theological Seminary, with a projected graduation date in the spring of 2025.
With 35 years of customer service experience in the retail and service sectors, along with over 32 years of involvement in church ministry, Steve brings a wealth of diverse experiences to his counselling practice. He dedicated several years to ministering to youth at the Agassiz Youth Center in Portage la Prairie before its closure in 2022. Steve and his wife have been happily married for 32 years, raising two daughters and are now relishing their roles as grandparents to their beautiful grandsons and sons-in-law.
Steve’s broad background in various fields has equipped him with a unique perspective on life and people. He hopes to use his life experiences, professional background, and academic training to assist individuals seeking help with compassion and humility. Steve firmly upholds the belief that every individual, irrespective of their beliefs or values, deserves to be treated with dignity, respect, and care.
Steve values the reciprocal nature of the counselling relationship, acknowledging that clients have much to offer in terms of insights and learning. He is dedicated to creating a safe and supportive space for individuals to explore their challenges, grow, and ultimately thrive.
